How to Prepare for Your Roof Installation

A professional roof installation company will prepare your roof workspace ahead of the job, but there are important steps for you to follow to ensure your property is protected and ready on install day. Follow the advice below to ensure a smooth construction day.

Preparation Before Your Roof Installation Day

Roof installation day typically begins early in the morning. So, you’ll want to prepare your space at least one day prior to any scheduled work. To start, we recommend a freshly mowed yard as shorter grass makes fallen debris easier to see and clean up after a roof install.

After lawn preparation, move or cover anything of value in all areas of your yard, deck, patio, and other outdoor areas:

  • Patio or deck furniture
  • Potted plants
  • Landscaping elements
  • Bikes and scooters
  • Grills
  • Outdoor toys
  • Ladders
  • Any obstacles that prevent roof access

If you have a power vent in the attic, you may be asked to call an electrician to remove it from the power source in advance. If needed, it will be pointed out in the initial roof inspection that occurs prior to your installation.

How Long Does It Take to Get Your Roof Done?

Every home and every roof require different needs. Plus, project length can depend on several factors independent of your home. ProCover Exterior’s professional estimators will be able to provide you with an accurate timeline after your roof inspection.

Factors that can impact your installation timeline include, but are not limited to, weather, roof size, and the complexity of the roof. Materials used can also impact project length. The following industry averages for installation are based on roofing material and include the other factors as well.

  • Asphalt: 1‒3 days
  • Wood: 2‒8 days
  • Slate: 6‒7 days
  • Concrete: 8‒9 days
